Printing Binding Slips

After selecting the issues to send to the bindery, print the binding slip. During this process, you can make selections about the binding.

  1. Once you have selected the issues to bind, choose the To Bindery button on the Card tab. The system displays the Send to Bindery dialog.
  2. Select the Print Slip check box to print a binding slip.
  3. Select the format for the binding slip from the Slip Format drop-down list.

See the Binding slip formats option for information on creating binding slip formats.

  1. If your library uses bindery files, choose the options you want to use in the Bindery Files section. See Creating and Adding to Bindery Files for more information.

Note that the bind file will contain the same fields as the binding slip. Edits made in the Edit Bind Slip dialog are saved in the bind file. If a field is repeated in the binding slip, only the first instance of that field is saved to the bind file.

  1. Make selections about binding, as necessary:
    1. Choose a Status. This indicates whether the issue is in the binding preparation area or at the bindery.

If you select a box status by using the dialog's drop-down menu, the number of claims displays incorrectly as the number of copies to bind/bound. To prevent this, enter the number of copies to bind and exit the dialog by choosing OK. Then modify the box status by using Tools | Box Menu | Modify Boxes Individually or Update Boxes as a Group.

    1. Select the Keep Old Transaction Date check box if you do not want to change the Transaction date of the checkin card boxes.
    2. Select the Delete Items for Individual Issues check box if you want to delete the item records associated with the boxes being sent to the bindery.
    3. Enter the number of copies to bind in the Copies to Bind box.

You cannot enter more copies to bind than the number of copies in the COPIES field of the checkin record.

    1. If changing the Transaction date, enter a date in the To Bindery Date box. This is typically the date you send the issues to the bindery, i.e., today's date. This date displays in the checkin card box on the same line as the Note. See Modifying Dates for more information about changing this date field.
    2. In the Volumes and Issues boxes, verify that the starting and ending enumeration levels match the issues you are binding.
    3. Enter a note in the Note box, if desired.
  2. Choose OK.
  3. If prompted, choose a printer.

The Edit Bindery Slip dialog appears. The dialog is formatted according to your system's binding slip format. The $ symbol denotes a line break on the slip. If the record does not contain the data expected by the format, the table cell is left empty.

  1. Enter binding slip edits (if any) and choose OK.

The system changes the checkin card box Status to the selected status.
