Displaying Links to Resources Based on the Presence of Data in Record Fields

Use one of the data test types below when you want to suppress the display of a resource link in records that are related by

• the presence of certain data within bibliographic record fields
• the absence of data within bibliographic record fields

These data tests contain rules to test one or more fields in a record. To use a data test, create the data test and assign the test to one or more target resources.

When you request resources from the full record displays of WebPAC and Sierra, the record in the full record display is tested.

• If the record passes the data test and the data test is assigned to one or more resources, then links to those resources display when the record appears in the full record displays of WebPAC and Sierra.
• If the record fails the data test and the data test is assigned to one or more resources, then links to those resources do not display when the record appears in the full record displays of WebPAC and Sierra.
• If the data test is not assigned to a resource, it displays.

Testing Records for the Presence of Data

To use a Check data in field(s) data test:

1. Choose Data and Field Tests from the menu on the left-hand side of the Pathfinder Pro home page.
   
   The Data and Field Tests tab displays:
   
   
2. Choose Create New.
   
   The Data Field Test (new) tab displays:
   
   
3. Enter a Name.
4. Choose Check data in field(s).
5. Choose Has data.
6. Choose a field selector by moving it from the available to the selected column.
   
   Choose a field selector in which the Additional Settings are defined.
7. To pass the data test only if the test passes for all the field selectors, choose Match All.
8. To pass the data test if the test passes for any of the field selectors, choose Match Any.
9. Choose Save.
10. Assign the data test to a resource.

Testing Records for the Absence of Data

1. Choose Data and Field Tests from the menu on the left-hand side of the Pathfinder Pro home page.

2. Choose Create New.
   
   The Data Field Test (new) tab displays:
   
   
3. Enter a Name.
4. Choose Check data in field(s).
5. To check for the absence of data in a field, choose Has no data.
6. Choose a field selector by moving it from the available to the selected column.
   
   Choose a field selector in which the Additional Settings are defined.
7. To pass the data test only if the test passes for all the field selectors, choose Match All.
8. To pass the data test if the test passes for any of the field selectors, choose Match Any.
9. Choose Save.
10. Assign the data test to a resource.

Creating Custom Data Tests

1. Choose Data and Field Tests from the menu on the left-hand side of the Pathfinder Pro home page.
   
   The Data and Field Tests tab displays:
   
   
2. Choose Create New.
   
   The Data Field Test (new) tab displays:
   
   
3. Enter a Name.
4. Choose Check data in field(s).
5. Enter a regular expression in the Custom text box.
6. Choose a field selector by moving it from the available to the selected column.
   
   Choose a field selector in which the Additional Settings are defined.
7. To pass the data test only if the test passes for all the field selectors, choose Match All.
8. To pass the data test if the test passes for any of the field selectors, choose Match Any.
9. Choose Save.
10. Assign the data test to a resource.

Verifying That a Data Test Works

To verify that a data test is returning the desired result:

1. Enter a record number in the Test with record number text box.
2. Choose Apply.
   
   The data test is applied to the record.
   
   If the result is "False," the record failed the data test.
   
   If the result is "True," the record passed the data test.
