Multiple IP Support for Web Access Management
Organizations using Web Access Management can purchase multiple IP support for Web Access Management. Multiple IP support uses the incoming IP address of the connection to limit access to an external resource. This option allows organizations to limit access to various external resources for specific subsets of patrons.
To use Multiple IP Support for Web Access Management, you must set the Verified Patron table and the Unverified Patron table.
Forward Table
The Multiple IP Support for Web Access Management product uses the IP address entries defined in the Web Access Management Forward table. Review Editing the Forward table and Web Access Management Syntax for details on setup and maintenance of the Forward table.
Before You Begin
You must complete the following steps before you set up Multiple IP Support for Web Access Management:
- List all incoming IP addresses and incoming patron types for which you want patrons directed to specific vendor databases. For example, you might want to limit access to a medical database to medical students.
- Note your system's IP addresses allocated for use by Multiple IP Support for Web Access Management.
- Associate the correct alternate IP address with an appropriate specific database (e.g., a medical database, a law database), incoming IP addresses, and incoming patron types.
- Inform your database vendors of the alternate IP addresses that they can expect from your system. They should associate the appropriate databases with the incoming IP address (e.g., the vendor should associate your specified IP address range for medical students with the vendor's medical database).
- Software Only Customers: Customers with a "Software Only" package must configure the system for IP ranges. Review the Software Only Multiple IP Setup section for details.
Once you have the necessary IP addresses and patron types, you must update the Verified Patron table to include patrons who must be authenticated for access to the database. Then update the Unverified Patron table to include patrons coming from known and trusted IP addresses who do not have to be authenticated to access a database.
