Transferring Files in Data Exchange
You can transfer MARC files to and from your Innovative system using the following methods:
- Get PC—Retrieves a file from the local PC.
- Get—Retrieves a file from a tape, such as a backup tape. The location of the tape is set up by Innovative staff. To set up a backup tape location, contact Innovative.
- Get FTS—Retrieves a file from a remote source using FTS (File Transfer Software).
- Put PC—Sends a file to the local PC.
- Put—Sends a file to a tape, such as a backup tape. The location of the tape is set up by Innovative staff. To set up a backup tape location, contact Innovative.
- Put FTS—Sends a file to a remote source using FTS (File Transfer Software).
Getting Files
Before you load a MARC file into the system, you must Get a file from your local PC or from a remote source. To get a file in Data Exchange, choose a loading process from the Select Process drop-down list, for example Load Bibliographic Records, and then choose the appropriate Get function.
- Get PC—Retrieves a file from the local PC.
- Get—Retrieves a file from a tape, for example a backup tape. The location of the tape is set by Innovative staff. To set up a backup tape location, contact Innovative.
- Get FTS—Retrieves a file from a remote source.
Get PC
To get files from your local PC:
- Choose Get PC. The Upload dialog box appears.
- Navigate to the appropriate directory and select the file(s) you want to transfer from the local PC to the system. You can select multiple files using Shift and Ctrl.
- Choose Upload. The Rename File dialog box appears.
- Make any desired changes to the name of the file and choose a file extension that ends in fts, for example .catfts of .bfts. When you are satisfied with the file name, choose OK.
Get
To get files from a tape source, you must choose a process that indicates tape as a possible source in the process name, for example Load Bibliographic Records From Tape or FTS, and then:
- Choose Get.
- Choose Start.The Output Messages area of the window displays the status of the retrieval.
- When the file is retrieved, choose Close.
Get FTS
You can use the FTS (File Transfer Software) client to transfer files between the Innovative system and a remote machine for which you have a valid username and password. See Transferring Files Using FTS.
Putting Files
When you are ready to export a file containing MARC records from the system, you must Put the file to a local PC or to a remote source. To put a file in Data Exchange, choose the appropriate output process from the Select Process drop-down list, for example Output MARC Records, and then choose the appropriate Put function.
- Put PC—Sends a file to the local PC.
- Put—Sends a file to a tape, such as a backup tape. The location of the tape is set by Innovative staff. To set up a backup tape location, contact Innovative.
- Put FTS—Sends a file to a remote source using FTS (File Transfer Software).
Exporting an Individual MARC Record
You can export files that contain multiple Innovative records in Data Exchange. To export a single bibliographic or authority record to a local PC, see Exporting an Individual MARC Record.
Put PC
To put files to a local PC:
- Select the output file in the Data Exchange file list.
- Choose Put PC. The Save dialog box appears.
- Navigate to the directory where you want to put the file and choose Save.
Put
To save files to a backup tape, you must choose a process that indicates tape as a possible source in the process name, for example Output MARC Files to Tape or FTS, and then:
- Select the output file in the Data Exchange file list.
- Choose Put .
- Choose Start. The Output Messages area of the window displays the status of the output.
- When the file is saved to tape, choose Close.
Put FTS
You can use the FTS (File Transfer Software) client to transfer files between the Innovative system and a remote machine for which you have a valid username and password. See Transferring Files Using FTS.
