Uploading Inventory Files in Data Exchange
Using Data Exchange, you can upload inventory files to the Sierraserver. After successfully uploading an inventory file, you can use it in Sierra's Inventory Control function.
To upload an inventory data file:
- Select the Data Exchange from the Function list.
- From the Select Process menu, select Transfer Inventory Files (invent). Sierra displays the list of processes inventory files (if any).
- Get the inventory file.
When you upload an inventory file, Sierra processes it and does one of the following:
- If the system encounters an error while processing the file, an error message appears (for example, "File structure is not correct. Incorrect format at line 6"). Correct the error and try uploading the file again. See Inventory File Format below for guidelines.
- If there are no errors, Sierra:
- Removes the prefix from each line in the file (that is, the "n:" preceding each barcode).
- Removes duplicate entries.
- Renames the file using the naming convention "rdi<timestamp>", where <timestamp> is the current date in the format YYYYMMDDHHMMSS. For example, "rdi20220515143015".
- Uploads the file to the Sierra server and adds it to the table of the processed inventory files in Data Exchange.
Inventory File Format
To upload an inventory file, it must follow these rules:
- The filename must have an ".rdi" extension.
- Only one barcode per line is allowed.
- Each line must use the format "n:<barcode>".
- There cannot be empty spaces between lines.
Sierra does not validate item barcodes when processing inventory files.
