Checking Out an Item to the Pickup Anywhere Location

After printing the Pickup Anywhere paging/transit slip, staff at the owning site perform the following steps:

  1. Retrieve the requested item from the shelf or check in the requested item.
  2. Insert the Pickup Anywhere paging/transit slip into the item. Optionally, you can also attach a special bookband or similar device that identifies the item as Pickup Anywhere materials. Innovative recommends this additional identification so that library staff at the pickup location can quickly recognize the item as a Pickup Anywhere item and process accordingly.
  3. Check out the item to the remote site. The system determines whether the item belongs to the same Local Server as the patron who placed the request:
    • If the item belongs to the same Local Server, the system converts the request to a standard circulation transaction. Note, however, that the item must still be handled as a Pickup Anywhere item.
    • If the item belongs to another Local Server, the system:
      • Changes the STATUS of the item from '(' (PAGED) to '@' (OFF-SITE). The item will retain this STATUS until it is returned to your site and checked in.
      • Sends a message to the requesting patron's site to change the STATUS of the virtual item from '&' (REQUESTED) to 't' (IN-TRANSIT).
      • Adds an entry for the request to the Pickup Anywhere database on the INN-Reach Central Server. The system assigns the entry the location key of the Pickup Anywhere location to which the item is being sent and the status "SHIPPED." Note that, prior to this event, the Pickup Anywhere database contained no record of this Pickup Anywhere request.
  4. Send the item to the specified Pickup Anywhere location.
