Creating ILL Requests

To create an ILL request:

  1. Select Enter Requests from the Function list.
  2. Retrieve the record of the requesting patron. ILL lists the possible material types the patron can select.
  3. Select the appropriate material type from the list.
  4. Click Select.
  5. Enter information for the new request according to the system prompts.
  6. Continue as appropriate:
    • Save the request by clicking Save. ILL saves the request in the new requests file and displays the previous screen.
    • Cancel the request by clicking Cancel or Cancel New Record Creation. Enter another request for the patron by selecting the material type and choosing the Select button.
    • Enter a request for another patron by closing the current record and retrieving the next patron record.
ILL Requests and Patron Blocks

The system checks the number of ILL requests on a patron record against the limits specified for that patron's P TYPE in the Patron Blocks table only at the time you retrieve the patron record. Therefore, the system is not able to warn you if you enter more new requests for a patron than are allowed by the Patron Blocks table. However, the system does display an alert the next time that patron record is retrieved.

If you do not double-check the patron record and adjust ILL requests as necessary, the system continues the ILL process and acquires the requested item(s). If the system determines the patron is blocked from checking out some (or all) of the items, your library staff must perform an override to enable checkout.

Mapping ILL ARTEmail / BLDSS Requests

If your library uses the British Library's ARTEmail document delivery system or BLDSS, your ILL prompts must be mapped to conform to the British Library's standards for requests. To this end, Innovative enables and configures a mapping file on your Sierra system by default. To view and edit the information specified in this mapping file, follow the steps outlined on Editing the ARTEmail / BLDSS Prompt Mapping File.
