Applying General Sales Tax to Fines

The General Sales Tax feature allows libraries to apply a General Sales Tax (GST) when adding manual charges and bills to patron records. The GST is applied as follows:

Manual Charges
You can choose whether to apply the GST when adding a manual charge to a patron's record. If you opt to apply the GST, the system multiplies the GST rate by the charge amount, then adds the result to the total amount the patron is charged.
Bills
The system automatically applies the GST when you bill a patron for a lost, unreturned, or damaged item. To calculate the GST, the system multiplies the GST rate by the item charge, then adds the result to the bill in lieu of the processing fee.

The General Sales Tax displays in the Fines tab and in fine payment receipts.

To enable the General Sales Tax feature, contact Innovative and specify the GST rate you want to apply.
