Adding Held Items to Courses

To add held items to courses by canceling the holds, set the Reserves: Allow hold cancel in reserve list maintenance circulation option to "YES".

When you select items to place on course reserve or add a bibliographic record to a course and one or more of the items has an item-level hold, you must cancel the hold before you can add the item to the course. If the Reserves: Allow hold cancel in reserve list maintenance circulation option is set to "YES," the system allows hold cancellation when adding items to course reserve lists. If the option is set to "NO," the system does not allow hold cancellation in the Course Reserves function.

Note that this page describes adding records with item-level holds only. The system does not warn you about title-level holds when adding items to course reserve lists.

Hold Cancellation Allowed

If hold cancellation is allowed when adding items to course reserve lists, the system prompts you to cancel the holds on the item. For example:

Record i<xxxxxxx> has a hold on it. It cannot be placed on reserve unless the hold is cancelled. Cancel hold?

Hold Cancellation Not Allowed

If hold cancellation is not allowed when adding items to courses, the system does not enable you to place the item on reserve, and the following message appears:

Record i<xxxxxxx> has a hold on it.

To add the item to the course:

  1. Choose OK.
  2. Close the course record.
  3. Choose Search/Holds from the Function list and cancel the hold(s).
  4. Choose Course Reserves from the Function list and repeat the steps for adding selected items to a course.
