Denying Recommended Titles

To deny recommended titles, you must be assigned the following permissions:

  • 016 (Read patron suggestions)
  • 190 (Process patron suggestions)

See Permissions Used by Sierra for more information.

When you deny a recommendation, its entry is removed from the list of recommendations.

  1. View a recommended title.
  2. With one or more titles selected, choose the Deny button.

A Deny Recommendations table lists the selected titles and the name of the patrons who made the recommendations.

  1. The system shows the default notification setting for that patron. You can override the default by checking or unchecking the Notify checkbox. The Notify option is disabled for selectors without email addresses in their accounts and for non-selectors without email addresses in their patron records.
  2. From the table, choose one of the following reasons for denying each title:
    • Duplicate: The selector's notification will read "Already in the library's collection:" above all the recommendations denied for this reason.
    • Cost: The selector's notification will read "Exceeds the library's budget for this kind of material:" above all the recommendations denied for this reason.
    • Scope: The selector's notification will read "Outside the scope of the library's collection:" above all the recommendations denied for this reason.
    • Other: Enter free text as your reason for denial and it will appear on the selector's notification above the recommendation denied for this reason.
  3. To print the Deny Recommendations table, choose Print.
  4. To return to the Recommendations table without denying the titles, choose Cancel.
  5. To deny the recommendations, delete it from the file, and return to the Recommendations table, choose OK. A denial notice is automatically sent by email to any selectors or non-selectors who recommended titles on the table and for whom the Notify checkbox was checked. If you are denying more than one title recommended by a patron, the system sends a single email notification for all denied titles rather than a separate notification for each one.
