Administering Holds Options
The Holds menu contains some or all of the following options:
- Allow bib level holds on bibs with only 1 attached item
- If this option is selected, Sierra allows you to place a title-level hold on a bibliographic record if that record has only one attached item record.
- Allow bib level holds on bibs with no items and no orders
- If this option is selected, Sierra allows staff to place a title-level hold on a bibliographic record if that record has no attached item and order records.
Preventing Patron Holds
To prevent a patron from placing title-level holds on a bibliographic record with no attached item or order records, set the BIBREQUEST Web option to "false." Staff-placed holds are governed by the Allow bib level holds on bibs with no items and no orders option.
- Allow volume level holds on volumes with only 1 attached item
- If your library has acquired the Volume Level Holds product, Sierra displays this option. If this option is selected, Sierra allows you to place a volume-level hold on a volume record if that record has only one attached item record.
- Allow volume level holds on volumes with no items
- If your library has acquired the Volume Level Holds product, Sierra displays this option. If this option is selected, Sierra allows staff to place a volume-level hold on a volume record if that record has no attached item and order records.
- Show Hold Alert during receiving
- If this option is selected, Sierra Acquisitions provides a message to alert you of any bibliographic-level holds placed on records being processed during the ordering, paying invoices, or receiving function.
- Limit pickup locations to those in the Hold Pickup Locations table
- If this option is selected, when you place a hold, you must choose a pickup location from the Hold Pickup Locations table. By default, you can choose pickup locations from the Branch (location) codes table.
Title Priority Paging
If the Title Priority Paging feature is enabled at your library, the Limit pickup locations to those in the Hold Pickup Locations table option is automatically checked and grayed out, and title-level pages are sent in the order indicated in the Paging Priority table element of the Hold Pickup Locations table.
- Default Not Wanted After Date
- If you enter a number between 1 and 999 in this field, a default date displays in the Not Wanted After field of the Place an Item-level Hold and Place a Title-level Hold dialog boxes when you place an item- or title-level hold. This default Not Wanted After date is calculated by adding the number of days entered in the Default Not Wanted After Date field to the date you are placing the hold; for instance, if you enter 30 into the Default Not Wanted After Date field and you place a hold on 11-16-2005, the default Not Wanted After date displays as 12-16-2005—30 days later. (You can also edit the displayed Not Wanted After date; in this example, 12-16-2005.)
- A maximum value of 365 is recommended for the Default Not Wanted After Date field.
- When the number in the Default Not Wanted After Date field is '0' (the default), no default Not Wanted After date is calculated.
