Read patron Requests

The Read patron REQUESTS option in the Admin Corner allows you to process patron requests manually.

Choosing Which Requests to Read

You can review all requests or just requests made from a particular location or group of locations:

Read Requests Made by OPAC Users

          1 > Read all requests
2 > Read requests only for a certain location
3 > Read requests for North Campus
          Q > QUIT
          Choose one (1,2,3,Q)

Option 1 > Read all requests

Allows you to view and process the patron requests for all locations in the system.

Option 2 > Read requests only for a certain location

Allows you to view and process the patron requests for specified locations in the system.

The system asks you to specify the pickup location of the requests you wish to view:

Read requests only for location ____

Option 3 > Read requests for <location group>

Allows you to view and process the requests for just the locations specified by the Locations Served table entry for your current terminal or login (i.e. statistics group).

Reviewing Requests

After you have chosen the patron requests to process, the system displays the number of requests to review and offers you the following options:

                  Read Requests Made by Users
                       73 requests to review
                  Read requests for all locations

Forward and Back Menu Options

If you used the Circulation option Holds: Additional patron fields to show in requests to include additional variable-length fields from the patron record, the system may offer the F > Forward menu option, allowing you to scroll forward to see additional information on the next screen. Once you scroll forward, the F > Forward menu option is replaced by the B > Back menu option, allowing you to return to the beginning of the patron request.

N > NEXT Record

View the next request.

C > CANCEL request

Remove the request from the requests file.

P > PRINT Record

Print the request.

Q > QUIT

Quit from viewing requests. If you have cancelled requests or placed holds on request, the system will ask you if you wish to remove them from the file, e.g.,:

Remove 2 requests that had holds placed or were cancelled? (y/n)

If your the system has been set up to accept only verified requests (i.e., only requests from patrons who are registered with the library), you are presented with two additional options:

H > Place HOLD

Puts a hold on the item for this patron. If there are any reasons that the patron cannot place a hold on the item, the hold will be refused, and the system displays a message, e.g.,

Patron already has item checked out

If a hold is placed, the system prompts you:

Print paging slip? (y/n)

Note that the special instruction entered by the patron (see the example screen above) is displayed when viewing the request. The special instruction is retained as a hold note, and is printed on the paging slip.
For a complete discussion of holds processing, see Managing Holds.

D > DISPLAY patron record

Displays the patron record in view-only mode.
