Accessing netLibrary Records
netLibrary records are retrieved in the WebPAC in the same manner as other database records. These records can be identified in browse lists with an eBook icon in the optional Medium column.
You can suppress display of the Medium column or use a different icon for netLibrary items by editing the BRIEF, EXTENDED, and IMAGE_MATTYPE Web options.
Browse lists can also be limited to display only netLibrary records. You can apply this limit in any of three ways:
Limit | Description |
---|---|
Automatic Presearch Limit | You can force searches to return only netLibrary records by adding the <!--{netli_force}--> token to each Search Help page for which this behavior is desired (e.g., the srchhelp_t.html page for Title searches). |
Prompted Presearch Limit | If the <!--{netli_ask}--> token appears on a Search Help page, a checkbox appears on the page that allows the patron to limit the results to netLibrary items before returning the search results. For example:
|
Postsearch Limit | Users can limit search results to netLibrary items by checking the Limit to netLibrary eBooks checkbox and resubmitting the search. The presence of this checkbox on system-generated WebPAC pages, such as browse screens, is controlled by the NETLI_ASK Web option. |
When WebPAC displays a netLibrary record, the system offers two access choices:
The NETLI_LINK option and the NETLI856TEXT Web options control the display of these options.
Go to netLibrary Preview
This option allows the patron to access the entire content of the eBook for a maximum of twenty minutes. Note that access to the eBook is controlled by the library's IP address, not the patron's record number.
Check the Book Out of netLibrary
This option grants the patron exclusive access to the eBook for a period set by the library. During the check-out period, no other patron may check out the record. Note that check-out access is controlled by the patron's record.
