Setting an Image as Thumbnail for Any Media Set
If your library has acquired thumbnail functionality you can create thumbnails (miniature versions) of images in media sets. For WebPAC users, a thumbnail displays as a visual identifier for the media set and as an image link in the WebPAC, allowing users to display the images contained in a media set.
When you add an image file to a new media set, Media Management automatically creates a thumbnail of that image. If you add an image file to an existing media set, or if your media set contains multiple images, you can select which of the images to use as the thumbnail image for that media set.
Follow these steps to specify which image in a media set will be used as the thumbnail for that media set.
- Retrieve a bibliographic record.
- Choose Go | Media.
- In the Media Manager window, navigate to a media set.
- Click once on the name of the image file you want to set as thumbnail.
- Choose Tools | Image | Set as Thumbnail. Sierra automatically changes the current thumbnail image to the image you have selected. To see this, click on the Thumbnail file in the Media Manager window. The new thumbnail image will appear in the Display window.
Setting a Thumbnail for a Non-image Media Set
You also can include a thumbnail that is not included in the image set or is for a non-image media set. Follow these steps to specify an image outside a media set to be used as the thumbnail for that media set.
- Retrieve a bibliographic record.
- Choose Go | Media.
- In the Media Manager window, navigate to a media set.
- Choose Tools | Field | Thumbnail and then Import File, Scan, Import URL, or Link URL.
