Mandatory Fields
Innovative can configure your system to require certain types of information when you create records. Mandatory Fields can specify required variable-length fields and define validity checks for supported record types. This feature can assess three different types of requirement:
- A specified variable-length field is required to be present in the record.
- A specified variable-length field is required to be present in the record and its contents must adhere to a supported format or pattern.
- A specified variable-length field is not required to be present, but if it is present, its contents must adhere to the supported format or pattern specified by your library when this feature was configured.
Sierra performs the checks specified by the Mandatory Fields feature each time a record is saved. The editor displays an instructive warning if the record's data does not conform to your system's requirements. Staff with the appropriate permission 608 can override Mandatory Fields validity checks.
Enabling and Configuring Mandatory Fields
If the Mandatory Fields feature is enabled on your system, the requirements for affected fields were specified by your library and configured by Innovative. Consult your system's administrator to determine the rules followed by your library's system. Contact Innovative to request set-up of currently supported validity checks.
