Protecting Fields in Coverage Data

You can protect fields in the coverage table from being overwritten when updating entries in the coverage table from data in a file. Use the Edit Field Protection option of the Edit menu in Coverage Edit to protect fields.

You choose each resource and set its protected fields. Protecting a field in one resource does not protect the field in other resources.

When you protect a field in a resource, all titles within the resource have the field protected. You cannot protect fields for selected titles within a resource.

To protect one or more fields in a resource, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Coverage Edit from the Function list.
  2. Choose a resource.
  3. Choose Edit | Edit Field Protection.

The Edit Field Protection dialog displays.
  4. In the Edit Field Protection dialog, check the fields to protect.
  5. Choose Save.

Protected fields display a lock icon in the Coverage Edit dialog for titles. For example, if ISSN and embargo are protected fields in a resource, the Coverage Edit dialog for titles in the resource displays two lock icons.
