Overriding Circulation Blocks with SIP2

If your library has acquired the SIP2 Circulation Interface product, you can request that Innovative enable the Circulation Block Override feature.

By default, the SIP2 Circulation Interface ignores circulation block information contained in the "no block" field of 11 (checkout) and 09 (checkin) transactions. Instead, the SIP2 Circulation Interface applies normal circulation blocks to transactions regardless of whether the 09 and 11 transactions carry the "Y" flag or the "N" flag in the "no block" field.

You can request that Innovative enable the Circulation Block Override feature. This feature instructs the SIP2 Circulation Interface to honor the use of the flags in the "no block" field of 11 (checkout) and 09 (checkin) transactions. SelfCheck machines commonly use this feature when operating in "Offline Recovery" mode. Innovative can assign this feature to an Options Group, thus giving library staff control over when the feature is enabled for a particular SelfCheck machine. The system logs SelfCheck circulation overrides in the Circulation Overrides file along with staff overrides.

Note that the SIP2 client software controls the conditions under which checkout and checkin messages include a "no block" override code in 09 and 11 transactions. Because the Circulation Block Override feature places enforcement of your library's circulation block policies at the discretion of the SIP2 client, "no block" support is optional and disabled by default.
