Suppressing Resources for a Range of Records

When you want to suppress the display of a resource link in records that are related by subject area (call number range), publication date (date range), or some other characteristic that can be expressed as a range of data in a field, use a data test of the type "bool query."

Bool query data tests contain rules, such as "greater than" or "equal to," to test one or more fixed- or variable-length fields in a bibliographic record. When you request target resources from the full record displays of WebPAC and Sierra, the record in the full record display is tested against the bool query.

To create a bool query data test that suppresses resources:

  1. Create the bool query.
  2. Create the bool query data test:
    1. Access the WebBridge Management menu by either:
      • entering http://your_library_[domain]/webbridge/edit in the browser address window
      • choosing Admin | WB Edit in an application

      The WebBridge Management menu displays:

      NOTE

Only one user can be logged in to the WebBridge Management menu's edit function. Other users can access the menus in View Only Mode.

If there is no activity by a login within the timeout period, the user is automatically logged out.

    2. Choose Edit Data Tests.

    4. Enter a Name.
    5. Choose Bool Query.
    6. Enter the bool query in the Bool Query text box.
    7. Choose Save.
  3. Assign the bool query data test to a resource.

Typically, bool query data tests to identify records in a range are used to suppress links from Sierra or WebPAC full record displays. See Assigning Data Tests to Resource Links from WebPAC or Sierra Full Record Displays.
  4. Test the query:
    1. Search the WebPAC or Sierra databases for a record that passes the data test (for example, is in the call number range or date range specified by the data test).
    2. Request target resources.

The target resources that have the bool query data test assigned to them will display.
