Running Encore Harvester

You must have the Encore Harvester application assigned to your login to run Encore Harvester. See Administering Applications for more information.

After you have defined the parameters for your repository and harvester profile, you can start the harvesting process at any time to perform an initial harvest or a re-harvest of the repository.

  1. In the Sierra Administration application, choose Encore Harvester from the Other Web Applications group.
  2. Choose the Profiles tab.
  3. Click on the name of the profile you want to run. Sierra displays the profile details, including when the last harvest was run.
  4. Click Start Harvesting. Sierra displays the Run Profile dialog box.
  5. If you are harvesting a repository for the first time, check the Create Initial Records box.
  1. To begin the harvesting process, click OK. Sierra displays a spinning wheel icon in the Status row while the harvesting process is running. Note that the contents of the Latest Harvest Run table refresh every 15 seconds while the harvesting process runs.

Depending on the size of your repository, the harvesting process could take a while.

When the harvest has finished, Sierra displays the details for the latest harvest run. These details include:

Status
The status of the latest harvest (for example, "harvesting", "finished", "error").
Start Date
The starting date and time when the harvest was last run.
End Date
The ending date and time when the harvest last finished.
Identifiers Queued
The number of records which contain an update date that is after the last harvest run date. These entries could be new records, updated records, deleted records, or (in some cases) records that do not require any action by the system.
Records Created
The number of new records which were created.
Records Updated
The number of records for which metadata was updated.
Records Deleted
The number of records which were removed from Encore due to deletion or status changes within the repository.
Records Ignored
The number of records which have an update date after the last harvest run, but did not require changes when Encore Harvester reviewed the records. This typically occurs when you select Clear Last Harvest, and Encore Harvester reviews all Identifiers.
Error Message
The error message associated with the last attempt to harvest a repository. For example, "Failed to read response: http://lib.org?verb=ListSets".
