Substitution phrases

Libraries can define up to 150 permanent substitution phrases with this option. These permanent substitution phrases are available in the regular editor when entering and updating records, and in serials and binding check-in. Each permanent substitution phrase can be of any length, can be associated with a single record type, e.g., bibliographic records, and must have a unique code within that record type. The unique code can be up to four alphanumeric characters, and cannot start with a digit.

When you select this option, a screen similar to the following appears:

The substitution phrases are listed by the record type with which the substitution phrase is associated. Within a record type, substitution phrases are listed in alphabetical order by code.

A > ADD a substitution phrase

When you select A > ADD a substitution phrase, Sierra asks you to enter the record type to which the substitution phrase applies and the name of the phrase (the code for the substitution phrase). You can then enter the data for the substitution phrase using the Full Screen Editor.

D > DELETE a substitution phrase

When you select this option, Sierra asks you to specify the line number of the substitution phrase that you want to remove from the list. You must confirm the deletion before it is done.

You can edit a substitution phrase by specifying its line number in the list of substitution phrases. For example, to edit the substitution phrase with code gkh in the example above, press 3:

You can change the record type with which the substitution phrase is associated, change the name of the substitution phrase, or edit the substitution phrase using the full screen editor.
