Floating Collections: Setup Examples
Here are some setup examples to help you decide how to set up floating collections processing for your system.
- All items in a collection can float - Let any items from the Biographies collection at Community Library float to branches A, X and Z:
- In the Collections workform for the Biographies collection, select Community Library on the Floating branches view. This indicates that Community Library as the home branch will let items in this collection float. Refer to Designate collections as eligible to float.
- In the Floating: To Branch policy table for Community Library, set Received branches A, X, Z to Yes. This indicates that Community Library allows items to float to these branches. Refer to Set the branches to receive floating items.
- In the Floating: Material Type Limits policy tables for branches A, X, and Z, set the limits for items permitted to float to each receiving branch. Note that these limits are not set in the policy table for Community Library, but in the policy tables of the branches that will receive the items. Refer to Limit the floating items for the same title a branch can receive.
- Set the Patron Services parameter Floating enabled to Yes for the home branch and the receiving branches.
- All items in a collection can float except a certain material type - Let all items from Community Library’s Biographies Collection except Reference material float to any branch:
- In the Collections workform for the Biographies collection, select Community Library on the Floating branches view. This indicates that Community Library will let items in this collection float. Refer to Designate collections as eligible to float.
- In the Floating: To Branch policy table for Community Library, set all Received branches to Yes. Refer to Set the branches to receive floating items.
- In the Floating: Material Types policy table for Community Library, set the Reference material type to No. Refer to Set the material types that cannot float.
- In the Floating: Material Type Limits policy tables for all receiving branches, set the limits for items permitted to float to each branch. Refer to Limit the floating items for the same title a branch can receive.
- Set the Patron Services parameter Floating enabled to Yes for the home branch and the receiving branches.
- All items of a certain material type can float - Let any item of material type DVD-NonFiction float from Community Library to any branch:
- From the Collections workform for every collection, select Community Library on the Floating branches view. This indicates that Community Library will let items in every collection float. Refer to Designate collections as eligible to float.
- In the Floating: To Branch policy table for Community Library, set all Received branches to Yes. Refer to Set the branches to receive floating items.
- In the Floating: Material Types policy table for Community Library, set any material types that should not float to No. See Set the material types that cannot float.
- In the Floating: Material Type Limits policy tables for all receiving branches, set the limits for DVD-NonFiction items permitted to float to each receiving branch. Refer to Limit the floating items for the same title a branch can receive.
- Set the Patron Services parameter Floating enabled to Yes for the home branch and the receiving branches.
- Only items with no collection can float - Let only items with no assigned collection float from Community Library to any branch:
- In the Collections workform for every collection, be sure Community Library is not checked in the Floating branches view.
- In the Floating: To Branch policy table for Community Library, set all Received branches to Yes. Refer to Set the branches to receive floating items.
- In the Floating: Material Types policy table for Community Library, set any material types that should not float to No. See Set the material types that cannot float.
- In the Floating: Material Type Limits policy tables for all receiving branches, set the limits for items permitted to float to each receiving branch. Refer to Limit the floating items for the same title a branch can receive.
- Set the Patron Services parameter Floating: Items with blank Assigned Collection can float to Yes for Community Library. Refer to Set parameters and profiles for floating collections.
- Set the Patron Services parameter Floating enabled to Yes for the home branch and the receiving branches.
