Enable Creation of Virtual Patron Records
When a patron who is not registered in your Polaris library system places an INN-Reach request on an item owned by your Polaris library, a virtual patron record is generated automatically so that the item can circulate to that remote patron. The virtual patron record is created using a combination of data and settings from the INN-Reach Create Hold message, the ILL institutional patron saved in the Polaris Administration parameter, and hard-coded defaults. Patron records for virtual patrons are exempt from all notices. For details regarding the automatic creation of the virtual patron record, see Other library's patron places a hold request using INN-Reach.
Note:
If a patron record is selected in the NCIP parameter, ILL institutional patron, you do not need to set up another patron record; only one ILL institutional patron can be selected for the library system. However, if an institutional patron is not identified in the parameter, the request from the remote patron will fail.
To set up the ILL institutional patron that will be used to create virtual patron records:
- Create a new patron record that will be identified as the institutional patron record.
The gender, statistical class, and other settings will be copied from this institutional patron to the virtual patron record.
- Select Administration > Explorer > System.
- At the System level, select Parameters.
- Select the NCIP tab.
- Double-click ILL institutional patron to open the ILL Institutional Patron dialog box.
- Click Find Patron and select the patron record that will be used to create virtual patron records.
- Click OK to save the institutional patron parameter.
