Messages and Blocks During Check-Outs and Renewals

As you check out items in Leap, messages or blocks may appear due to the status of the item or the patron. If a message or block appears in Leap, you can select CONTINUE (if you have the appropriate permissions) or CANCEL.

These messages and blocks appear in Leap according to the same criteria that they appear in the Polaris staff client. For more information on the types of messages and blocks that might appear when checking out items in Leap, see the topic Check-Out Blocks and Messages in Polaris ILS Help.

Sample Messages and Blocks

This section provides examples of different blocks or messages you might encounter during check-outs and renewals.

Patron Blocks

This example shows multiple patron blocks for a single patron.

Associated Patron Blocks

If you are checking out an item to a patron who has an associated patron block, a blocking message appears. You can select the associated patron's name to link to the associated patron record.

Outreach Services Patron Alert

If you check out an item for a patron receiving Polaris Outreach Services, an alert appears if the item was previously checked out to that patron.

Select CONTINUE to continue checking out the item. If the Patron Services parameter, ORS: Prompt for update during normal check-out is set to Yes in Polaris Administration, another message asks if you want to update the Next Service Date. When you select Yes, the Last Service and Next Service dates are updated in the patron record, based on the Outreach Services delivery schedule set for that patron.

Minimum Age Alert

If your library has set up age-related loan policies, Leap displays a Minimum age alert during check-out when a patron does not meet the minimum age requirements for the material type.
