Configure the global header
The global header is the nonscrolling area at the top of every page in Vega. You can tailor the contents to align with the library’s branding. You can also add custom links.
Libraries that belong to consortia can create unique global headers that contain their logos, custom links, and privacy policies.
If you support multiple languages in Vega, you can customize the global header for each language. A language-specific configuration of the global header is called a translation. During initial setup, you must configure an English translation. You don’t need to add it; it’s already added for you, but you must complete the configuration. You must complete the English translation because it’s the default translation.
Multilanguage scenarios
For translations other than English, be aware of the following things:
- If you don’t specify a value for the library logo or library name, the value in the English translation appears to patrons.
- If you configure only one link, no other links appear to patrons even if the English translation has two configured links.
Use the following workflow to add multiple translations of the global header:
- Complete the English translation configuration.
- Add translations for additional languages.
You must complete the English configuration before you can add additional translations.
Custom favicons
You can add a custom favicon to your global header. The following guidelines apply:
-
If the main site has a favicon, but other languages don't, all languages display the main site favicon.
-
You can add a different favicon for each language.
-
If you upload a favicon to the main site, any language that doesn't have a specific favicon displays the main site favicon.
-
You can add languages with a logo and a favicon without changing other languages.
-
If you add a new language without uploading a favicon, the global header displays the favicon you set for English (US).

- From the Settings menu, select Page Customizations > Header and Footer.
- On the Header and Footer page, select Add another translation.
- On the Add Config page, in the Language section, select the language for the translation.
- Configure one or more of the following:
- Library Logo: This is the image on the left side of the header. Select Upload Logo, and then select either a .jpg or .png file. The file can be no more than 2 MB. If the image is larger than 240 pixels wide by 64 pixels tall, it is resized proportionally to fit in this space.
- Favicon: Select Upload Favicon, and then select a square .jpeg or .png image that is between 32 x 32 pixels and 192 x 192 pixels.
- Library Name: This is the text immediately after the logo. Enter the text to display. If the text is too long to fit in this space, an ellipsis (…) appears to patrons to indicate the text is truncated.
- Link to Library Privacy Policy: Enter the text to display and the URL.
- Custom Link:
- On the Link 1 tab, enter the text to display and the URL.
- On the Link 2 tab, add a second link if desired.
