MyLibrary!
MyLibrary! is an application for Apple iPhone, Apple iPod, and Android devices that puts your library in the hands of patrons on the go. At initial logon the patron chooses your library, and the app remembers the choice. The Home screen is tailored to your library, displaying the library’s graphic at the top of the page and the library’s real-time Twitter stream or Facebook feed at the bottom. The MyLibrary! app offers patrons a feature-rich library experience specifically designed for the device. For example, patrons can use MyLibrary! to:
- Quickly search the catalog by keyword, and filter the results by material type (requires Sierra 3.2 or later).
- Scan a book’s ISBN barcode with the device camera. A search for the title is automatically launched in the library catalog and, if the title is available, the patron can immediately place a hold on it.
- Use native barcode/password (PIN), a unique user ID, or LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to sign in, depending on the library's practice. (Unique user ID and LDAP sign-in require Sierra 3.2 or later. LDAP must be configured in Sierra and be in use by the institution.)
- Check out and check in digital content from OverDrive and cloudLibrary directly from the app, without going to a third-party app or website.
- View patron account information, including profile information, checked-out items, holds, and current monies owed. Patrons can renew eligible checked-out items, cancel holds, and change hold pickup locations.
- Scan a library card barcode image stored in the app at a selfcheck machine or at the circulation desk. (Although modern optical barcode scanners and some laser scanners can scan barcodes in the MyLibrary! interface, libraries should test their scanners when they first implement MyLibrary!).
- Connect with your library through the library’s presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Instagram, and YouTube.
- Search through the library's web catalog. The search results offer up-to-date availability information, and the patron can place holds from the results.
MyLibrary! is available in English, Canadian French, French, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, Italian, and Polish.
System and Hardware Requirements for MyLibrary!
The MyLibrary! app is available to both iOS and Android users. The iOS version is optimized for the Apple iPhone and iPod, but also functions on the iPad or iPad mini. To use the MyLibrary! app, you must have:
- Sierra 2.3 or later. (Keyword search, unique user ID sign-in, and LDAP sign-in require Sierra 3.2 or later.)
- AirPAC for Smartphones, Encore Mobile, or WebPAC installed
- Patrons PINs enabled
- One of the following operating systems:
- iOS version 12.0 or newer, running on one of the following devices:
- iPhone 5s and newer
- iPod Touch 6G and newer
- iPad 5 and newer (including Mini, Air, and Pro).
- Note that the app is optimized for the iPhone and iPod, but the app is functional on an iPad or iPad Mini.
- Android version 4.4 or newer
- iOS version 12.0 or newer, running on one of the following devices:
