Administering Search Settings

The settings menu for Search contains options for searching in Sierra Desktop Application.

Search Default

This option allows you to select whether the cursor is initially in the Select Index drop-down menu or the Input text box in the Search panel.

Initial Articles

When the Use same initial articles as OPAC option is selected, the system removes the same initial articles from title index searches in the Sierra Desktop Application as it does in the WebPAC. This option can be used to remove foreign language initial articles (for example, "les", "la", "le", and so on) entered into title index search terms.

To use this setting, the Characters removed from beginning of user-typed search OPAC option must be set to include a custom list of articles. See Creating a List of Specific Initial Articles for more information.
