Deleting Harvested Records

You must have the Encore Harvester application assigned to your login to delete harvested records. See Administering Applications for more information.

The Encore Harvester feature in the Sierra Administration Application allows you to delete records which the system created while harvesting a repository. You can delete records using one of the following methods:

Deleting by ID

You can delete harvested records individually by specifying either the X-record ID or repository key for each record you want to delete. To use this method, do the following:

  1. In the Sierra Administration application, choose Encore Harvester from the Other Web Applications group.
  2. Click the Delete Manager tab.
  3. Select Delete by ID from the Action drop-down menu.
  4. To delete a specific record(s), do one of the following:
    • Click the X-record id radio button. In the Ids box, enter the X-record ID (one per line) for each record you want to delete.
    • Click the OAI Identifier radio button and choose a repository from the drop-down menu. In the Ids box, enter the repository key (one per line) for each record you want to delete.
  5. Click Delete Records. Sierra displays a warning message stating that the record deletion is permanent.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • To continue with the deletion, check the box and click OK. Sierra displays the number of records successfully deleted.
    • To cancel the operation, click Cancel.

Deleting by Repository and Sets

You can delete harvested records associated with a specific repository or set(s). Note that Sierra deletes the records associated with your repository and sets only; the system does not delete the repository or set parameters when using this method.

To delete harvested records by repository or set, do the following:

  1. In the Sierra Administration application, choose Encore Harvester from the Other Web Applications group.
  2. Click the Delete Manager tab.
  3. Select Delete by Repository and Sets from the Action drop-down menu.
  4. Select a repository from the Repository drop-down menu. Sierra displays the number of records associated with the repository, as well as the sets associated with the repository.
  5. Select the set(s) from the Sets table whose records you want to delete. To select all sets, click the box in the upper left-hand corner.
  6. (Optional) You can further limit the deletion of records to those which were harvested within a specific date range. To use this option:
    1. Click the Limit by date range box.
    2. Enter dates in the Begin Date and End Date boxes. You can enter a date manually in the "yyyy-mm-dd" format (for example, "2010-05-15") or click the calendar icon and select a date.
  7. Click Delete Records. Sierra displays a warning message stating that the record deletion is permanent.
  8. Do one of the following:
    • To continue with the deletion, check the box and click OK. Sierra displays the number of records successfully deleted.
    • To cancel the operation, click Cancel.

Deleting by Profile

You can delete the harvested records associated with a specific profile. Note that Sierra deletes the records associated with the profile only; the system does not delete the profile itself when using this method.

To delete harvested records by profile, do the following:

  1. In the Sierra Administration application, choose Encore Harvester from the Other Web Applications group.
  2. Click the Delete Manager tab.
  3. Select Delete by Profile from the Action drop-down menu.
  4. Select a profile from the Profile drop-down menu. Sierra displays a warning message stating that the record deletion is permanent.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • To continue with the deletion, check the box and click OK. Sierra displays the number of records successfully deleted.
    • To cancel the operation, click Cancel.
