Set up Email Notification Prerequisites

To prepare Polaris for e-mail notification:

1. In Polaris System Administration (staff client), go to Administration Explorer > System > Parameters > Notification and set Email Server: SMTP address for the organization. Use the computer name where the SMTP service is installed.
2. On the Polaris database server, create a desktop shortcut to /Program Files/Polaris/[version]/Bin/PolEmailManager.exe. The PolEmailManager.exe utility is used to send special announcement e-mail messages.
3. Set up reverse DNS in Active Directory for your network. Reverse DNS is used to authenticate a sender’s address with the domain. This step helps ensure your patrons will receive their e-mail notices. As a security measure, certain Internet service providers block e-mail to their users if they cannot find the sending server.
