Using INN-Reach Integration for ILL Borrowing and Lending
When a patron places a request on an item in the INN-Reach Central Catalog, INN-Reach first identifies and authenticates the patron placing the request. If INN-Reach verifies that the patron is registered with your library and authorized to place INN-Reach requests, INN-Reach sends a Create Patron Hold API message to your Polaris library. This message initiates the integrated borrowing process whereby a series of INN-Reach API messages and internal Polaris transactions: create the Interlibrary (ILL) hold request in Polaris; create the virtual item and bib when the item is received; display the ILL item in the patron account; notify the patron that the item is held and ready for pickup; inform the owning library when the item has been shipped back; and then delete the virtual item and bib when the item is checked in at the owing library. When a patron from another library places an INN-Reach request on an item owned by your Polaris library, INN-Reach sends a Create Item Hold API message to your library. This API message initiates the integrated lending process whereby a series of API messages and internal Polaris transactions: create the virtual patron record and link a hold for the requested item to that virtual patron; update the hold and item to indicate the item was shipped; confirm the shipment; check the item out to the virtual patron; update the hold request to a Held status when received at the borrowing library; notify the borrowing library that the circulation is complete; and then delete the request and virtual patron record.
